“ Paranoid” Embroideries addresses our relationship to technology especially our smart phones. I am interested in communicating the allure and power of smart devices and the commodification of human experience.” Paranoid” refers to surveillance capitalism and social media but also to life during the pandemic in a time of social and political crisis and is used in the conventional not clinical sense. I chose the labor intensive and slow process of embroidery as a contrast to the speed and instantaneous experience of the digital world. My handmade stitches transform the logos of apps into something personal and intimate that connects me to a history of handwork.
